CrossFit Games Open

It’s that time of year again! The CrossFit Open starts next week and we are all excited to watch Pat as he fights for his spot as a Masters competitor at the 2012 CrossFit Games in Carson California July 13-15.

Being a part of the Open is a lot of fun. It puts perspective on where you are at in your fitness quest in comparison to the rest of the world. Last year there were over 25,000 people that participated in the open! Trust me, it’s rare that you put as much into your workouts as you do when it actually counts toward being measured against other athletes of your same ability.

We encourage all of you to sign up for the Open and we will be doing all of the workouts, one per week for six weeks, at SISU. If you are signed up on the games site, we will be judging you and officially recording your scores!

You can sign up for the CrossFit Games Open here. It costs $20.

Discipline

There’s a great saying out there: “How you do anything is how you do everything”. Such a true statement. Yeah we have our strengths and weaknesses but even if we suck at something its the mental approach we take to handling our suck that makes the difference.

Discipline is the stuff champions of athleticism, business, and life are made of. No matter who you are, if you do not have the discipline to focus on excelling by getting better at you shortcomings, you are typically going to muddle through life experiencing the same problems in every facet.

Have a shitty diet? Adding more exercise won’t fix the problem. Can’t live within a budget? Getting another credit card won’t help. Not getting along with your spouse? Spending more time at the office is not the solution. The examples go on and on. The question is do you have the discipline to incur a little self-induced discomfort to train yourself to change your bad habits and improve on mediocre ones that are causing you problems. Discipline usually comes in the form of pain on some level (physical, mental or emotional) and is something most people are not willing to endure.

We here at CrossFit SISU are here to help you with that discipline. Making small mental changes in the gym, where discipline affects no one but yourself at that moment, quickly snowball into making your life better by executing discipline outside the gym. Wanna stop after five burpees, make it seven and see if it doesn’t actually kill you. Want to use the green band for pull-ups? Grab a blue and purple and suffer through and see if you don’t feel a whole lot better (maybe only mentally) after the WOD and watch your progress. These are the only ways to progress in here. Creating more suck for yourself. Having the discipline to put yourself in an uncomfortable situation with an intention of improvement, ignoring  the desire to make it easier on yourself. Do you have the discipline to say no to a social engagement because you need to stay home and prepare food for the week. Do you have the discipline to impose a self induced punishment for not sticking to your goal/plan?

It’s easy in here guys. Easy to be held accountable for your actions. It’s easy to set a goal and have us help you with it. It can be a coach or one of your fellow athletes. Start in here and see where it gets you out there.

CTW,

Coach Jason
