GOALS January 9, 2012
When was the last time you achieved a goal? Do you remember how it made you feel? Was the benefit of the goal worth the sacrifice?
My guess is that all of us have experienced the positive effects of goal achievement. I also assume, we have all set goals and not achieved them…why do we achieve some goals and not others? I believe it all comes down to our level of DESIRE for that which we want in the first place!
Let’s look at an example of DESIRE…
How many of us “would like” to lose 10lbs? How many of us know exactly what to do in order to lose it?? The better question is why do we fail to do exactly what needs to be done to lose the weight? We say we want it, we know what to do, then why don’t we do it…?
There are many reasons (excuses) to point to…but the truth is we don’t have the burning DESIRE that ignites the willpower required to overcome the obstacles we are faced with to obtain the goal.
Sounds simple right? So how do you create DESIRE…
STEP 1: Write or type exactly what you want and when you want it. Example, I want to lose 10 lbs of fat by February 22. It must be specific and measurable.
STEP 2: Write down exactly why you want “IT”. What it means to you, explain with emotion, paint a vivid picture of how great it will be once it is achieved and how it will make you feel etc. More descriptive the better.
STEP 3: Write down the “ACTION” you will take immediately to begin achieving the goal. For me, there are things I need to do and things I need to stop doing, like drinking beer and eating cookies! As you write it down, visualize yourself effortlessly performing the actions.
STEP 4: Find a place in your house to place this card in a visible place. For me, I have a bulletin board in my closet. I keep many things on here including a family calendar of events, pictures and concert tickets, like Lenny Kravitz! If that does not work, tape it to your toothbrush…!
STEP 5: This is the critical ACTION that MUST take place. Each night, before you go to bed, you must read the card aloud to yourself. Don’t just read it, but read it with emotion and excitement…aloud. You will also do this every morning when you wake up. Everyday…morning and night, with emotion and conviction as if you already have that which you want.
You will be amazed at the result in a short period of time. Remember, goals can fail for many reasons (excuses), but you most likely did not have the burning DESIRE that ignites your willpower required to overcome the obstacles we are faced with to obtain the goal. By following this 5 step process with emotion and conviction, you will ignite your willpower and create the DESIRE you need to achieve the goal.
So what will your goals be for 2012? Will you set clear goals or let yourself drift along???
