CrossFit is a health and fitness program that achieves a very broad, general fitness that is applicable to everyday life.  CrossFit won’t make you the best in the world at any physical skill, but it will make you better than most at every physical skill.  CrossFitters don’t run 4:00 miles or squat 800 pounds, but they might run 5:30 miles and squat 400 pounds.   Every athlete is different.  However, the ultimate goal is the same for all of us: increasing our level of fitness and health for a better life.  CrossFit is the most effective way to achieve a greater level of fitness and health.  If that statement sounds bold–it is.  We welcome anyone to show evidence to the contrary.

Greg Glassman summarized CrossFit in 100-words…

“Eat meat and vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar. Keep intake to levels that will support exercise but not body fat. Practice and train major lifts: Deadlift, clean, squat, presses, C&J, and snatch. Similarly, master the basics of gymnastics: pull-ups, dips, rope climb, push-ups, sit-ups, presses to handstand, pirouettes, flips, splits, and holds. Bike, run, swim, row, etc, hard and fast. Five or six days per week mix these elements in as many combinations and patterns as creativity will allow. Routine is the enemy. Keep workouts short and intense. Regularly learn and play new sports.”

Stick to these rough guidelines and you are well on your way to elite fitness…it’s that simple.

Don’t forget, though, the devil is in the details.  If you are interested in reading more about the origins and fundamentals of CrossFit, read over the FREE articles “What is CrossFit” page at CrossFit.com.  Another great resource for information is the CrossFit Journal, which comes in at an affordable annual subscription rate of $25.

An even better way to find out more about CrossFit is to try it out yourself.  Stop by CrossFit Sisu and meet the crew, try a session, and see how you feel about going back to the “old way” of training afterwards.
