About Billy
Billy brings a remarkable blend of academic expertise, professional experience, and a deep passion for education and coaching to SISU. Born and raised in Honduras, Billy moved to Minnesota at 15, where he discovered his love for athletics, running track and field, and playing intramural soccer. His educational journey began with a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from Barry University in Miami, FL, followed by a master’s in Teaching Special Education and Linguistically Diverse Students from George Washington University. Now pursuing a Ph.D. in Education, Billy’s passion for learning and teaching fuels his commitment to preparing SISU’s coaches to be their best.
Billy’s professional experience is equally impressive. Since returning to Minnesota in 2017, he has served as a High School Special Education Teacher, Director of Disability Services at Saint Mary’s University, and now works as a Linguistic and Cultural Equity Specialist for the Minnesota Department of Education. Over the past seven years, Billy has also coached CrossFit, combining his educational expertise with his love for helping others achieve their potential.
Billy’s dedication to his family shines as brightly as his professional accomplishments. He is married to his college sweetheart, Scarlet, a fellow SISU member, and is the proud father of their son, Greyson Brooks, with another child on the way, and their beloved dog, Ryder.
Outside of work, Billy enjoys traveling, exploring craft beer, savoring great food, and immersing himself in the arts—though he openly admits his dislike for Minnesota winters. His passion for CrossFit is rooted in the powerful sense of connection it fosters. Billy thrives on helping athletes unlock their potential, celebrate milestones, and grow stronger through challenges. With his unique blend of educational leadership, coaching experience, and dedication to growth, Billy is perfectly positioned to lead and elevate SISU’s coaching team to new heights.
