About Jason

Born in Colorado and grew up in Haigler, NE (pop 182 – you have never heard of it). Spent my youth delivering newspapers via pedal power. When I was not slinging the daily periodical, I was found behind a lawnmower, ramping my bike, or walking the dog. Went to college at the University of Nebraska @ Kearney and met my wonderful wife Sara there. We moved to Minnesota in 2006 and have never looked back. Currently live in Chanhassen, MN, and have a son, Landon, and a pit mix named Mac. In my “free” time I find myself cycling, camping, walking the dog, running, or coaching baseball.

Athletic Career

With only 128 high school kids in the county, it was impossible to not be on a sports team. I played football and basketball and ran track. In college, I worked full-time to avoid student debt but found a strong passion for running when not in class or on the clock. After college, I found obstacle course racing and ran a couple of half marathons.

How I Found CrossFit

Two words….Steven Brandt!! In November 2016, I met Steve, and we had a great relationship right away. We both enjoyed fitness and had completed a Tough Mudder (or four) previously. I roped him into a Tough Mudder team I put together through my work in 2017 and 2018. Steve returned the favor by joining SISU and talking up how great it was doing CrossFit. Steve knew if I put a toe in the vicinity of any CrossFit box, I would be hooked. On July 14th, 2018, my CrossFit addiction started.

Why I Coach

To pay it forward! Since my CrossFit journey began back in 2018, I have experienced countless positive results in my life. These include physical improvements, better mental well-being, and incredible friendships. As a coach, I love doing whatever I can to help others reap these rewards. Not to mention the awesome feeling when athletes push themselves past where they thought their limits once stood. Witnessing these victories and the enjoyment it brings to the entire community pushes me to be a better coach, athlete, and person.
